Advisory Council
A Message from the Chair of the Advisory Council – Allan Shaw (Executive in Residence)
The Corporate Residency MBA has brought together the best faculty, the best students and the best business partners in an innovative approach to management education. To ensure the program’s continued relevance and success, we need to keep our employers involved. We have established an Advisory Council to provide a formal mechanism for employer partner input and engagement in the MBA program.
I am pleased that our finest students are being given the opportunity to connect with well-known and respected employers through our Corporate Residency MBA. It is important to us that MBA students build on their foundation of career development and management skills through programs such as this.
The Council has committed to focusing on the following in the initial stages of the program:
- Integrate the expectations of both students and organizations.
- Provide opportunities for students to distinguish themselves.
- Support the development of a boss that will invest in the student.
- Work with faculty to ensure that course material is complementary to needs.
- Invest in candidates by providing projects that allow students to utilize all their talent.
I believe in this program. The dean was bold enough to suggest it, got the faculty on board, got Dalhousie to invest in it and—most importantly—did it right and got the right people involved. The recent additions to the Dalhousie team by way of Peggy Cunningham, Director of the School of Business, and Scott Comber, Director of the Corporate Residency MBA, demonstrate the commitment we have to the program. We seek continued commitment and continued improvement through the continued involvement of our employer partners.
