Citco Internship Overview
The Citco (Canada) Inc. Internship Program consists of three modules that mirror functions performed in Shared Services Centre (SSC). This program will provide interns with the opportunity to gain progressive leadership, communication and problem solving experience. Exposure to and completion of the three modules will be individually based and is not guaranteed for each internship.
Module One
The intern will follow the procedures of a new entry-level employee, going through Citco orientation, attending Aexeo Induction training, and being assigned a workload. Initial training of the funds will be with a peer on the floor, who will walk the intern through the daily procedures, get them exposed to the funds and the Citco systems, and then hand over the workload, supporting questions and problems as they arise.
The intern will then be responsible for completing daily reconciliations as assigned and meeting daily deadlines while producing high-quality reconciliations. This will give the intern an appreciation for the daily environment, the balance between quality and timeliness, and a view of the challenges that come up in day-to-day activities.
The reviewers will support the intern through the daily deliverables, answering questions and building the bigger picture as the intern develops.
Module Two
This begins the transition into a support role and shifts the focus for the intern. Instead of being responsible for assigned tasks, which give structure to the day and independent control over one’s day, the intern now has assigned funds or team members, whose issues or challenges will impact the intern’s day.
The intern will begin supporting the achievement of daily deliverables. The intern may continue to have reconciliations assigned for daily completion, but will be assigned funds and/or team members to support on a daily basis. This will include the reviewing of all reconciliations before delivery to the primary office, ensuring all deliverables go out accurately and on time, in the case where there are delays in the deliverables, ensuring proper communication is occurring with the primary office, and that follow up on issues is occurring to ensure resolution of problems and delivery of reconciliations.
A reviewer will support the intern in learning the review process and assist with direction on problems and issues.
Module Three
The intern will be assigned project work such as the migration of new work, testing of new tools or procedures, or ad hoc specialized projects as required. The intern may also be assigned a small team to manage on a daily basis.
If the intern is assigned a specific project, he/she will have to take a systematic approach to the project, map out a time line, effectively evaluate information or changes required, work with other teams to gather information or effect the change, then test the changes or migrate the new work to meet current standards. It is expected that the intern will utilize the knowledge and experience of assigned team members throughout this process.
If the intern becomes involved with the management of a team, his/her focus will shift to a larger view, considering strategic issues, employee development and increasing utilization. The intern will identify training requirements for the team, as well as development opportunities, manage the client relationship with the primary office, ensure the deliverables tracking is up to date for statistics reporting, and address issues that arise from various sources. As well, the intern may prepare and perform informal feedback sessions with the assigned team, with the manager’s guidance and attendance.
The manager will meet with and guide the intern through the daily operations process from the leadership perspective and support the intern through any challenges that arise.
