Grades

Faculty of Graduate Studies and School of Business regulations state that a course with a grade below B– is considered a failed course.

Grades submitted for classes taken outside Dalhousie by letter of permission must conform to Dalhousie standards; that is, a grade of "C" recorded in another institution's transcript will be treated as a "Failure" (below the minimum passing grade of B-) on the Dalhousie transcript.

If a single course is failed, the candidate may continue. However, if a core course is failed, it may prevent the completion of later courses for which it was a prerequisite, thus resulting in a one-year delay in completing the program.

A second failure in the program, regardless of when such failure occurs, will normally result in immediate dismissal from the MBA program. Please see the Faculty of Graduate Studies regulations in the calendar for further details. In these cases, students must apply for readmission.

For other required program elements, such as the corporate residency and personal and professional effectiveness activities, no grade is assigned. Rather, these components rely on individual and group assessments, employer feedback and coaching by faculty members to support the learning process.

Within two weeks of the first meeting of a class, the instructor shall make available a written description of the method of evaluation to be used in this class. In any class for which 25 percent or more of the evaluation is based on group work, there must be an exam(s) that must be passed on average.

Special examinations may be granted to students only in the case of illness supported by a medical certificate or in other exceptional circumstances. Medical certificates must be submitted at the time of the illness and will not normally be accepted after a lapse of one week from the date of the examination.

Students are expected to maintain continuous enrollment and registration and to follow the Code of Student Conduct.
