Program Description

The Corporate Residency MBA program has four primary areas of focus:

  • an innovative, integrated business curriculum that allows students to fully explore and apply key learning;
  • a Personal and Professional Effectiveness curriculum that aims to foster integrity-based leadership development in conjunction with students’ career development and management;
  • a Corporate Residency, which allows students the opportunity to apply business and leadership skills and competencies; and
  • a set of electives developed around four core areas of concentration—Marketing, Finance, Leadership, and International Business.

The Corporate Residency MBA program experience is an intense one and certain components have been individually designed with both the development needs of the students and the needs of the Employer Partners in mind. For example, once a Corporate Residency is complete, students may choose to continue their relationship with an Employer Partner by co-developing an elective with their Employer Partner and a Faculty member.

Further, students reflect on their experiences in a continuing way, benefiting from online and face-to-face contact with students, faculty, Employer Partners and alumni throughout the program. Students also share their experiences with each other, looking to their extended network and community.

Overall, the program has been co-designed by faculty, students and Employer Partners to develop integrity-based business leaders and provide students with applied business skills and practices targeted at getting things done.

Year One

Year one of the Corporate Residency MBA program begins with pre-course work in June and an orientation in early July. The balance of the summer is spent completing three core courses taught as two-week intensives. These will provide students with a new appreciation for the world of business and give them the fundamental competencies essential for success in today’s business world. These courses are followed by a comprehensive overview of the academic program and participation in the selection process for corporate residencies.

In the fall of year one are six more core courses and two integrative weekend sessions that challenge students to fully integrate all learning to date.  Faculty members and Employer Partners will work together on these sessions to ensure the highest level of learning and job preparation. As well, during the summer and fall of year one, students will benefit from personal and professional effectiveness sessions designed to assist in building relevant job skills and personal competencies.

Year one continues in January with the corporate residencies – extended placements with leading employers refining the concepts and skills acquired in the classroom and putting them into practice in a corporate setting. The academic learning continues during this period with two more courses to be completed online. Similarly, Personal and Professional Effectiveness during the corporate residencies will include innovative action learning groups. Year one ends with an intensive debriefing of the corporate residencies to harvest the important learnings and celebrate student successes.

Year Two

In the fall and winter terms, students complete three remaining core courses and have the opportunity to select seven elective courses that complement areas of concentration (link). Elective courses can also include directed studies that will be developed with your employer partner and faculty members. The official completion of the MBA occurs at the May convocation.
