Special Project Advisor to Regional Director, Marine
Marine Safety Atlantic Region

The successful candidate will aid the Regional Director, Marine with:

  • The Marine Safety Strategic Realignment
  • Regional Canadian Marine Advisory Council Revitalization

The Strategic Realignment’s purpose is to prepare the region for the next decade and beyond. It will ensure that Transport Canada is a comfortable workplace, free of harassment, and that its employees are engaged, productive and demonstrate strong leadership abilities. The success of the realignment will have a direct impact on the levels of service, efficiencies and processes of Marine Safety, but it is the effect on the individual employee that can be used to determine the overall success of this project. 

The Regional Canadian Marine Advisory Council which is hosted by the Atlantic Region needs to be revitalized in an effort to increase industry participation, improve the level of consultation between government and the marine industry, and be an effective conduit of information to the national level.

These projects are ambitious and require an intern who will:

  • Attend meetings and record minutes
  • Facilitate conference calls
  • Develop strategies to present to senior management
  • Translate suggestions and ideas into proposals
  • Generate reports and organizational charts

Education/Training Required

We are looking for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration as well as high academic standing.

Selection Requirements

Transport Canada is looking for a candidate who:

  • Is hard-working, organized and creative
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills both in writing and oral communication (bilingualism an asset)
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office programs (such as Excel and Word)
  • Is capable of working alone or with minimum supervision
  • Displays flexibility and a positive attitude
  • Has strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Is capable of dealing with employees and clients in an ethical, socially responsible, and open nature
  • Can meet deadlines.

Location

The MBA intern will be based in our Dartmouth, NS, office.
