Transport Canada Civil Aviation
Transport Canada’s Atlantic Region is responsible for the implementation and administration of policies, regulations and programs for a safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation system in Atlantic Canada. The Civil Aviation Branch works with Canadian air operators, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft maintenance organizations, airport operators, flying schools, and air navigation service providers to maintain the continuing safety of Canada’s aviation system. The Branch’s mandate encompasses the full spectrum of regulatory responsibilities necessary to provide effective safety oversight in all aspects of civil aviation.
The Regional Office is located in Moncton, New Brunswick, and the assignment will be based there.
Assignment Plan
You will be working as part of a team that is in the process of consolidating operational service functions now provided through headquarters and other regions and relocating those functions to one geographic location in Atlantic Region.
The team will be working in accordance with the Civil Aviation Integrated Management System, to centralize the following services;
- Aircraft registration and leasing
- Flight Crew licensing
- Generated minimum equipment list (GMEL)
- Foreign approved training organization (FATO) maintenance
- Aircraft flight permits in support of national certification
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licensing
- Air Traffic Controller (ATC) licensing
- Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS) data input
This will be done in accordance with an assessment methodology currently being presented to the National Civil Aviation Management Executive for approval.
- Your activities during the assignment will include:
- Aggregating such policies and preparing draft policies resulting from that aggregation.
- Co-ordinating and compiling information received from regions and headquarters.
- Cross checking the information against other available data sources to ensure accuracy.
- Researching regional costs for resources such as office space, equipment, telephone lines etc.
- Assisting the team in ensuring scheduled activities are completed on time.
- Participating in meetings and teleconferences.
The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, will be very tactful and will have an ability to understand complex interrelationships quickly. He/she Will be able to develop and follow time lines, and identify critical steps, and will be able to explain complex processes in writing.
Education Required
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of project management, basic word processing, basic database and advanced spreadsheet and data manipulation.
Autonomy
Due to other regional demands, the Regional Managers involved with the project will be absent for periods of time up to a month. The candidate will have the ability to advance to project during their absences and will be aware of when to alert them to difficulties that require their intervention.
This assignment will allow the candidate to demonstrate their project management skills as well as their ability to work with a team of individuals with competing interests.
